Few weeks ago I published the MVP2 of Power of Agile mentioning that the game has achieved a new level and so connected to SWOT framework that it should have been renamed as Agile SWOT. Done!

Power of Agile? MVP2

This 3rd MVP has been tuned following suggestions from playtesters and now if flows more smoothly.

Now the different states has been clearly renamed and we have very precise flow across the player’s area.

Agile SWOT flow

A new dedicated player board had been designed following these flows.

Below the cards in this new version.

Agile SWOT MVP3

Layout of the cards has been refined; in particular a new row on the bottom has icons explaining the use of the cards. Also the text has been completed and standardized. In particular I have prepared a specific graphic for the 4 Strengths.

A new set of cards is now available: Team Behaviour. This optional  set has been added to show how team behaviour can impact on success of the agile transformation. This makes the game easier and also helps the printing process (now we have exact 9 sheets, 54 cards as a standard poker deck)

Threats cards now have a new concept that is very “kanban-based”: Ageing. These cards cannot be delayed but every round stay in the In Progress occupying places and evolving so that every few rounds they produce side effects (each card is different) changing the flow of work.

Another important concept is that now the “In Progress” is up to 8 places because the Work In Progress is LIMITED. Now it is much clearer how the Threats may impact the transformation (and the game).

End game condition has been accordingly updated:

  • You win the game if you move all cards in Done or Closed (as before)

You loose against the game if

  • You have not enough cards in Done to reshuffle Delayed cards (original condition)
  • You overcame the WIP limit of 8 cards In Progress
  • You cannot manage the effect of an aged Threat

Some variants of the game are emerging: for example the skills, arranged by level, can reduce the WIP limit (not enough skills to have large WIP). Also the application of the Team Behaviour cards give some ideas.
